The NBA has made great strides in becoming a more diverse league and celebrating that diversity over the past few years. The Clippers have taken part in these events, holding nights for people of Serbian, Jewish, and Italian heritages and more over the years.

On January 1, the Clippers will take another step towards appreciating their diverse fanbase by holding a Pride Night against the Sixers for their 7:30 game.

Using the promo code “LGBT”, fans can buy a ticket which guarantees them a Clippers pride shirt, and gives them a chance to go to a pre-game panel from members of the LGBTQ sports community, who will discuss important moments from their careers. The game will also feature special in-game entertainment, with Brandon Stansell performing the National Anthem, and Snow tha Product providing the halftime show.

Clippers President of Business Operations Gillian Zucker said on Clippers Pride Night: “The Clippers are proud to represent every part of L.A. as we continue to amplify the powerful message that diversity and inclusion makes us stronger. Respect for different backgrounds, genders, heritage and cultures has long been a part of the Clippers platform and we’re thrilled to celebrate and embrace the LGBTQIA+ community with Pride night.

It’s long past time that the NBA started reaching out more extensively to the LGBTQ community, especially considering all the biases against members of that community regarding sports and athletes. The Clippers’ Pride Night is a start in that regard, and should be a fun experience for all. Hopefully this is the start of a yearly tradition for Pride Night, as it would be great to see on a more regular basis.
