Jawun Evans, the Clippers’ spunky rookie point guard, hasn’t played since January 20th. That might change soon, as he practiced today, and said that he “feels great”. He couldn’t answer when asked if he would play tomorrow, saying “Leave it up to them (the training staff), whatever they tell me, I’m gonna do”.
It seems pretty unlikely that Evans would play after just one practice, especially since he hasn’t been on the court in a month and a half. Nonetheless, his practicing is a very good sign for the Clippers, who need all the help they can get down the stretch run. With Austin Rivers, Milos Teodosic, and Lou Williams all healthy, and Sindarius Thornwell playing good basketball, it seems unlikely that Evans will get many minutes when he is active. But Evans’ energy, defensive pressure, and ability to push the ball in transition has proved valuable this season, and should be even more helpful now considering how the Clippers’ defense has started to flag of late. He should absorb all of Sean Kilpatrick’s minutes as soon as he is active, at the very least.
Clippers PR just announced the injury list for tomorrow’s game, with Evans ruled as “questionable”. It still seems unlikely that he will play, but progress is definitely being made.
Welcome back Jawun!
