Danilo Gallinari to Play in NBA Africa Game

The provisional rosters for the NBA’s Africa game were announced today, and Gallo will play for Team World.

Danilo Gallinari has been pretty quiet so far this summer, as have many of the Clippers. We know that a lot of the guys (Sindarius Thornwell, Jawun Evans, CJ Williams) have been working out together, which is awesome, but don’t have much more information than that.

However, the NBA just announced their Africa game earlier today, which will take place on August 4th in Pretoria, South Africa. Excitingly, Gallo will be a member of Team World, which will take on Team Africa. While this game doesn’t really “mean” anything, and the rosters will be relatively thrown together, it’s still a chance to watch NBA players in action. Early August is usually a dead time for NBA happenings, so this game will be a nice break from the boredom of the offseason.

Gallinari playing in the game is cool because Clippers’ fans will be able to see how he’s looking, but also because it’s a sign that he’s healthy. Gallo was plagued by a broken hand the last few weeks of the NBA season, and as recently as a couple weeks ago it still wasn’t fully healed. While he has over two months to rest up before the game, his being on the roster is an indication that he’s confident he will be ready to go by then. Better, that level of confidence hopefully means the hand is close to healed, and that Gallo will be able to workout and train this summer instead of just rehabbing the hand.

The game itself will probably be on ESPN, and the full rosters are expected to be released sometime in the coming weeks. Good for Danilo on being a part of this game (which is really cool in its own right). Hopefully it’s a great experience for him!
