The Clippers had been in discussions with Jordan and the Dallas Mavericks in recent days in an attempt to orchestrate an opt-in-and-trade deal to send DeAndre to Dallas, his preferred free agency destination. However, the Mavericks were insistent that such a deal include sending Wesley Matthews’ $18.6 million expiring contract back to the Clippers. The Clippers were understandably uninterested, and that seemed to be the impasse in negotiations.
