The 2019 NBA Draft is just two days away, and mock boards are starting to crystallize as teams focus in on their targets, interviews and workouts being over. The Clippers have two second round picks, at 48 and 56, which means it will be difficult to predict who they take — with 47 picks ahead of them, knowing who will be there at 48 is impossible. However, intel season is nearly over, which means that there might be a better idea of who the Clippers take now then there was a week ago. Let’s see who the major NBA Draft sites have the Clippers taking with their two picks.
ESPN (Jonathan Givony and Mike Schmitz), updated June 17
48: Jontay Porter, center from Missouri
56: Jalen McDaniels, forward from San Diego State
SI (Jeremy Woo), updated June 18
48: DaQuan Jeffries, wing from Tulsa
56: Jaylen Hoard, wing from Wake Forest
The Athletic (Sam Vecenie), updated June 18
48: Jaylen Nowell, guard from Washington
56: Brian Bowen, wing from NBL (Australian league)
The Ringer (Kevin O’Connor), updated June 15
48: John Konchar, guard from Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne
56: Jontay Porter, center from Missouri
CBS (Kyle Boone), updated June 17
48: DaQuan Jeffries, wing from Tulsa
56: Zylan Cheatham, forward from Arizona State
Here we go! After three mock draft roundups of nearly zero consensus, names are starting to pop up multiple times on these boards. DaQuan Jeffries, a wing from Tulsa, is mocked to the Clippers twice, as is Jontay Porter, a center from Missouri. Porter is an analytics darling who has injury issues, but would easily be worth a swing late in the 2nd round. Jeffries is a hulking wing, a physical defender who can switch multiple positions and would fit in with the Clippers’ gritty mentality.
In a general sense, the mock drafts seem to be in consensus that the Clippers will take at least one wing, maybe two. This makes sense, as the Clippers’ biggest “need” is on the wing. There also seems to be an idea that the Clippers will take a big man, which only fills a need — Ivica Zubac is a free agent, as is JaMychal Green, leaving the Clippers with only a single big man on their roster in Montrezl Harrell.
The mock draft boards will continue to be updated as the draft approaches, and we will probably be back with a final roundup on Thursday morning. Stay tuned!
