While the Clippers are waiting for Kawhi Leonard to make his free agent decision, they have not been idle. Per Ian Begley, a beat writer of the Knicks and Nets, the Clippers are one of several teams that have reached out to veteran wing James Ennis, who was on the Rockets and Sixers last year.
After disappointing for the Rockets in the first half of the season, the Sixers were able to snag him, and Ennis emerged as a rotation piece for them as they made their run to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. Ennis is an iffy three-point shooter (good percentages, awful volume), solid rebounder and cutter, and meh defender who can nevertheless play real minutes at the wing in playoff situations. He would fill a role for the Clippers as their backup small forward behind newly acquired Mo Harkless, and presumably wouldn’t cost much at this point in free agency. It’s certainly not a move to be excited about, but it makes sense, and Ennis would be a nice addition.
