The Clippers have cashed in all their trips in, sending young point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Danilo Gallinari along with a “record-setting” number of draft picks to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Paul George.
This is monumental. Paul George just finished third in MVP voting in the 2019 season, and he will now team with the Finals MVP in Kawhi Leonard. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will be a star in this league, but to get the best, you have to pay up, and the Clippers did so. The Clippers gave up an unprecedented haul for George, sending 4 unprotected 1st round picks, 1 protected first round pick, and two pick swaps. Holy shit. Right now, the Clippers are title favorites for the 2019-2020 season. We will have more on this shortly.
Per Marc Stein, the Clippers are giving up their 2022, 2024, and 2026 1st Round Picks, the two Miami picks (2021 unprotected and 2023 protected 1-14), and pick swaps in 2023 and 2025. That’s an absolute motherload, but it will all be worth it if the Clippers win a championship.
OKC acquired THREE unprotected first-round picks from the Clippers in this trade (2022, 2024 and 2026), league sources say, PLUS two firsts from Miami (2021 unprotected and 2023 protected 1-to-14) ... AND the right to swap picks with the Clips in 2023 and 2025. Staggering
