The LA Clippers were rumored to be in the running to make a move during the 2020 NBA Draft on Wednesday, and so they did, with a multi-team trade that landed them Luke Kennard in exchange for Landry Shamet.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the Clippers traded Shamet to the Brooklyn Nets for the No. 19 pick.

In turn, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported the No. 19 pick was being flipped to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Kennard.

Kennard, 24, has played three seasons in the NBA to date, all for the Pistons, after being drafted 12th overall out of Duke in 2017.
This past season he made a step up in his game, averaging 15.8 points per game while being a regular starter last season. The left-hander also chipped in with 4.1 assists.
It’s an interesting move, and we’ll have more on this and the draft day coming up. For now, Kennard looks like he’s heading to LA to join the Clippers.
Update: Woj has also reported that the Clippers are sending Rodney McGruder to Detroit as part of the deal. Considering no extra assets were sent LA’s way, it appears the team was treating McGruder as dead salary after he fell out of the rotation in the 2019-20 season.
