After the bombshell news that Montrezl Harrell is heading the Lakers in free agency, the Clippers have some frontcourt questions to address.
The Clippers could probably get by giving more time to their existing bigs at the center spot, including Ivica Zubac, Mfiondu Kabengele, the recently re-signed Patrick Patterson, JaMychal Green and Marcus Morris Sr. The latter two are not in the team’s control, however, as both are unrestricted free agents.
A new report indicates that both Green and Morris are being pursued by the Denver Nuggets, who reportedly have lost two bigs/forwards of their own in free agency, Mason Plumlee and Jerami Grant. Paul Millsap, the team’s starting power forward, is also potentially on his way out. The rumor comes from Harrison Wind of DNVR Sports.
Two names that the Nuggets are targeting, per a source: Marcus Morris and JaMychal Green.

As Jovan Buha of The Athletic noted, the Nuggets reached out to Green in free agency last season as well, before the Clipper forward decided to return to LA for the room exception. The team has bird rights on him to pay him any salary, and early bird rights on Morris that allow them to pay him up to $18 million in 2020-21. The key for the Clippers will be retaining enough of their flexibility to keep some of their cap exceptions to sign external free agents as well.
It has been a surprising start to free agency — it certainly will be strange to see Harrell in purple and gold — but the Clippers are still in good position to improve their roster going forward. Losing out on both Green and Morris would be a problem, so hopefully the team has a plan in place to keep one or both.
