Just like that, we’re here. It’s the opening night for the NBA. If it feels like we just saw basketball, it’s because we did, a little over two months ago. We’ve left the bubble, and now we’re back to normality — sort of.
The game between the Lakers and Clippers will be played at Staples Center tonight. The Lakers will raise yet another championship banner and will receive their championship rings. The Clippers, playing as the visiting team, will watch. Just a normal NBA opening night. Well, kind of.
There will be no fans in attendance tonight. Players will be wearing masks and will be socially distancing on the benches. It’ll almost have the feel of an old fashioned NBA game, but we just can’t get there quite yet.
Both the Clippers and Lakers will begin the season as title favorites. They’re the two best teams in the Western Conference and likely the two best teams in all of basketball. Tonight is game No. 1 of a 72-game journey. A journey nobody knows how the end-result will look. But, that’s a worry for another time.
What’s important is that the NBA is back tonight. Most importantly, Clippers basketball is back tonight. Let’s enjoy the ride.
