After some difficult decisions over the last few days, deciding today’s number couldn’t have been any easier. There have been five players to wear No. 19 in Clippers history. The first was Mike Lynn back in 1971, and the most recent was Rodney McGruder this past season. However, none of been better, and arguably more loved by fans, than Sam Cassell.

Cassell was in the NBA for 15 years, and only two-and-a-half of them were spent with the Clippers, but there’s no denying the impact he had while on the team. During his first two seasons, Cassell averaged 15 points and nearly six assists a game. He helped get the Clippers to the playoffs for the first time since 1997, and contributed to the Clippers winning their first playoff series since moving to California in 1978.

Struggling with injuries in 2007-2008, he was bought-out by the Clippers and signed with the Celtics.

Though his time was brief, Cassell has left a lasting impact on the franchise. He’s currently an assistant coach with the Clippers under Doc Rivers.

Check out this incredible game he had in the playoffs against Phoenix.
