Can Kawhi meme again?

Plus the rest of the oddball predictions for the 2021-22 season.

Last week, we compiled and presented the first part of the oddball prediction counter for the 2021-22 season, answering questions such as “Will Zubac keep on shooting threes?”, “What will be Reggie’s next on-court accessory?” and more!

Another week of research and writing later, I’m here to present the fruits of that labor: the second and final part of the Clips Nation oddball prediction counter.

Meme-able Kawhi Moments

From igniting the internet with his laugh, to surprise cameo-ing in a Drake music video, to just being Kawhi Leonard, the Board Man seems to be able to elevate the most mundane activities to the highest degree of hilarity. As such, despite his minimal social media presence, there is no shortage of Kawhi content out on the internet. This year, with Kawhi’s injury timetable for the 2021-22 season still not established, it’s hard to imagine his biggest impact being on the court. And with that diminished basketball role comes a lessening of press conferences, media events, and opportunities to set Twitter ablaze with Fun Guy content. As such, the over/under for Kawhi Leonard Memes this year is set at 1. Yep

Serge Ibaka’s Dishing and Jamming

Speaking of memorable Kawhi moments, the episode of Serge Ibaka’s show, “How Hungry Are You?” in which Kawhi guest stars in lends itself to as a treasure trove of such scenes. This offseason, Clippers star Paul George and owner Steve Ballmer have both been teased in future episodes. With a grueling season to go, this group of underdogs is going to need impeccable chemistry if they hope to rally into the upper echelon of the Western Conference. Perhaps Serge’s show can be the perfect avenue to build some of that rapport. And, in return, Mafuzzy Chef gets the perfect stream of vibrant personalities. As such, we’re setting the Clippers-affiliated episodes of “How Hungry Are You?” counter over/under at 3 this season.

Your Favorite Announcer’s Favorite Player

As Clippers broadcaster Brian Sieman grew more and more comfortable with this team, his PPG (puns per game) has increased as well. In the most recent iteration of this Clippers team, Amir Coffey has been the primary subject of Sieman’s witticism. The result? Memorable descriptions of Coffey’s performance, such as “a Venti effort”, “Brew-tiful”, and “thanks a Latte”. With the Brewmaster’s place on the team up in the air after this off season, however, the void needs to be filled by someone. Early contenders include Terance Mann (who has proven successful inspiring puns from Sieman as a second option already), Jay Scrubb, and George King, but the return of Coffey still can’t be ruled out. What do you think: Which Clipper do you think this Sieman will navigate on next season?

Nic “Nice Guy Nico” Batum Moments

The mascot and star of the Clippers’ career revitalization program last season, Nic Batum has always showcased an affinity for sportsmanship and chivalrous behavior. From complimenting competitors on other teams during the playoffs, to cheering up opponents after beating them in the Olympics, Nico has stayed in the headlines for all the right reasons. Between corner threes and kindness, Batum has a solid arsenal with which to kill opponents with. The name of the game for this counter is making headlines, and we at Clips Nation predict that Batum will be in them for positive reasons because of two separate instances this season. What do you think?

Marcus “Bad Boy Mook” Morris Moments

On the other hand, every contending team needs an enforcer. Someone to bring the tenacity, the grit, and the ability to get in the opponent’s heads (and faces). From the famous 3-0 hand signs against Joel Embiid when he was with the Celtics, to pointing his 3-pointer celebration directly at opposing benches more recently with the Clippers, Marcus Morris Sr. more than fits the description as that guy for the Clips, especially with Pat Bev no longer in a Clippers uniform. All the hard work Mook’s put into his game makes him someone you’d love to play with and hate to play against. With that in mind, we’re setting the over/under for Mook’s “tough guy” counter at two separate instances for which he’ll make the news as well.
