Charles Barkley says that it's embarrassing that the Clipper bigs gave up 30 points and 20 rebounds to some random foreign dude. That never happened to Sir Charles, right? RIGHT?

Isn't it hilarious when Jon Stewart has a clip of some politician or news anchor insisting he never said something, and then goes directly to the video of the same person saying exactly what he says he never said? My favorite part of those Daily Show moments is when Jon muses aloud whether these people understand that we have this stuff called video, and that their words are being recorded, and that we actually know what they've said in the past.

During the pregame festivities for Clippers-Heat on Thursday, Charles Barkley was ridiculing Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan for allowing Nikola Vucevic of the Magic to score 30 points and grab 20 rebounds against them the previous night. Shaquille O'Neal, who is the voice of reason on that show (let that sink in for a moment) asked Sir Charles if anyone had ever perhaps hung a 30/20 night on him, if perhaps these things happen and they don't automatically invalidate a person forever.

I'm paraphrasing now, but the reply went something like this: "I ain't never given up no 30/20 to no Nikola Vucevic. Maybe to Larry Bird. This guy ain't Kevin Love. I ain't never given up no 30/20 to a guy like that."

At which point I turned to ClipperMax and said, "I have a research project."

Three players posted 30/20 nights against Charles Barkley and his teammates in his career. As it happens, none of them were Larry Bird, who only had one 30/20 in his career. Barkley was however on the receiving end of 30/20s from:

Patrick Ewing: Hall of Famer, 11 time All Star, hung 33 and 20 on Barkley and the Sixers on April 4, 1989. No shame there.

Bill Laimbeer: Not in the Hall of Fame, but a four time All Star, one of his two career 30/20 games came against Barkley on February 11, 1987. Laimbeer averaged under 13 points per game in his career, but he was a good player. We'll let it slide.

Rony Seikaly: Seikaly put up a 35/20 game against the Sixers on April 19, 1991. Seikaly never made an All Star team, he's not in the Hall of Fame. Seikaly was a pretty decent center -- he's no Nikola Vucevic, but he was pretty good. He is however one hell of a DJ.

And that is why I love the internet.

Superstar for a Night, Nikola Vucevic | Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Citizen Zhiv has taken the Orlando loss hard, and he wants to know the moral of the story. Is there a moral to this story?

Yikes. I hate it when that happens. An early game, and a little dvr space means getting home early, before 6, and speeding through it and still having the evening ruined by 7pm. So for me it becomes trying to ignore it and put it out of mind and sleep on it and make the aftermath part of the next day. SP covers it, there are all sorts of good comments on the thread, and it's almost time to move on and start getting into tonight's TNT special. Almost. The team certainly has; they did it shortly after the game last night.

But I need to try to consider the moral of last night's story for just one more moment or two.

Wasn't this just typical of the Clippers? So it's not like we're not used to this. As the team has evolved and gotten better, apparently one last thing that they need to shake is losing to teams that they should beat, not having sufficient motivation for lesser opponents, and falling into trap games like this one. It used to happen all the time, or it would go on for sustained stretches, and it was maddening back then. Hard to say what to think about it now. It's weird that it still happens. But it should be said, I suppose, that the Clips are still adjusting to a new coach and a new system and they're still finding themselves. Whatever. It's a poor excuse.

And every loss, especially when you have a good, elite-level team, is excruciating in its own way. Don't remember seeing just this version of depressing defeat before: play like crap and miss shots and lack any sort of defensive intensity in the first half, get it together and get control of the game and a healthy lead with an inspired, relatively epic 3rd quarter run, and then... take the foot of the gas. In a big way too. Or you could call it bringing in the bench. Or you could say calling out a Mulligan--on all that effort. A new and different way to lose. And maybe that's cool, for us longtime Clipper afficionadoes of defeat.

Want to add another all-too-familiar element of this loss, one that goes hand-in-hand with the standard frustrating tumble against a supposedly lesser opponent? Yes, Citizens, we got to watch another installment of "All-Star for a night." The fact that Nikola Vukevic is a solid, rapidly rising, physical player with a nice skill set just shows the range and flexibility of this regular Clipper feature. Sometimes it's an obscure scrub, sometimes it's a guy showing he will have a long but undistinguished career in the league, sometimes it's a breakout for a rising star. Vukevic played well against the Clippers last year, if I recall correctly, but last night he was more than just a handful. He woke up this morning knowing that he is a better and more valuable NBA player than he was at the same time yesterday. He got to show what he can do against a legitimate, widely-publicized opponent, and he got to see it for himself, to feel the flow of it. Last night was a step up for him, and for the team along with him. It was a great effort, and a great win. Thank you, Clippers. We've seen this many times before, in all sorts of different versions.

It just shows that the DPOY stuff about DeAndre Jordan was garbage and empty hype. That's alright because we knew about Doc Rivers' penchant for cheerleading and confidence-building going in, and we never thought that DJ was going to win any awards. He just needs to play well and lead the defense. He didn't have the proper energy going after Vukevic and contesting his shooting, but that little gap of focus was shared by all of the Clippers in the first half. Too bad. Lots of work to do. And we should all try to remember that humiliations are a good thing. They promote growth and focus. The Clippers responded well to the Laker humiliation, and it should be interesting to see how they respond to this unnecessary glitch. Things could go south in the next two games, and we'll all be shaking our heads, wringing our hands and worse, but the Clippers are still a good and talented team.

The pressure point for me is the Redick-Crawford substitution pattern, which is an extremely subtle equation. Jamal Crawford is incredibly valuable and I love having him on the team, but at this point I think we've seen enough to say that he shouldn't be taking too many minutes away from J.J. Redick. Of course Redick isn't going to shoot great every night, and playing Crawford is an obvious alternative when Redick isn't razor sharp. But it's important not to overplay Crawford. Milph keeps talking about Crawford as "an offense unto himself," but that's Vinny ball in my mind; it has its limited uses. The Clippers are a better, crisper team with Redick; the ball moves more, they get better shots, they play better defense. They need a bench, of course, but it doesn't seem to be a necessity to give big minutes to the Crawford show, as awesome and entertaining as it is, especially when the game is on the line in the second half and the first part of the 4th quarter. Barnes needs to get fully healthy, and Collison needs to settle in; he can still take some more time, we're always going to miss Bledsoe, but we're waiting on Collison at this point. Deferring unduly to Crawford's uncanny shot-making is a mistake.

Maybe let's not even talk about the Mullens thing

Maybe let's not even talk about the Byron Mullens thing? There's nothing to say, really. It was truly glaring how much of a momentum changer he was last night. It hurts when the shots don't go in, all of them. But the part I hate is that he operates as a shooter first, and a semi-legitimate big man second. It was especially bad on a night when the Clippers were failing to control the paint on both ends. He needs to establish some sort of inside presence, act as a credible defender, and then he can find 3s--the opponent wants him taking them. And he should take them, in the right situations, but he seems to have a knack for taking them at not-so-great times. Yes, it's great when they go in. But what we saw last night was really painful to watch. And DJ ended up playing 44 undistinguished minutes on the night before a big showdown with Miami, in a defeat. Aaargh.

Blake Griffin hitting jump shots is interesting. Hard to say what it means just yet. It's interesting that they aren't really 15 footers, they're more like 18-20+. I remember Karl Malone's deadeye range as essentially 15 feet, with occasional extension; the same was true during FElton's mvp-calibre season. It almost seems as if Griffin is turning into a more versatile jump shooter than the standard big man who knocks down mid-range perimeter shots, but it's hard to establish that deadeye status. Maybe there's no distinction here, and I'm making this up. But it's going to be fun to see what happens.

Okay, done. On to the next. Unfortunately last night's game plays right into the hands of the TNT crew, always happy to feast on Clipper blood. That promises to be extremely annoying, but the Clippers deserve it I guess, and the humiliated squad has all sorts of reasons to be fired up for this big game.

The Clippers shoot below 40% and despite overcoming a 19 point deficit in the third quarter, they lose to the Magic in Orlando as Nikola Vucevic dominated them for 30 points and 21 rebounds.

The vaunted, top-rated offense of the Los Angeles Clippers opened their road trip in Orlando against the Magic with a nice play that created an open look for the red hot J.J. Redick. The first quarter also featured a fast break lob to Blake Griffin, a dunk for DeAndre Jordan, a wide open layup for Jared Dudley and a series of open jumpers.

Oh, did I mention that the Clippers missed all of those shots?

Sometimes the shots fall and sometimes they don't. The Clippers entered Wednesday's game shooting over 50% from the field on the season as a team. Their top six scorers were all shooting over 50% individually. Yet they shot 38% for the game Wednesday. It gets worse. Consider this: the Clippers made 14 of 19 shots during a nine minute third quarter run in which they outscored the Magic 32-7 and turned a 19 point deficit into a six point lead. Take away that stretch and the Clippers were 22 for 76 -- that's worse than 29% -- the rest of the game. Ouch.

In crunch time, when the shots really count, Redick had a wide open three pointer to tie the game with 25 seconds left, and Chris Paul -- the best player in the NBA through the first week of the season -- missed a wide open layup with the Clippers down four and still holding out hope with 18 seconds left. Paul had missed an open three that would have given the Clippers the lead a minute earlier. What are you gonna do?

Let's not take anything away from the Magic, who seemed like anything but a tanker tonight. Nikola Vucevic had 30 points and 21 rebounds, the second 30/20 game of his brief career though I have a feeling it will not be the last. The Magic hustled and scrapped, they contested shots, they made big shots, they made big free throws. Arron Afflalo didn't have his best game this season, but the shots he made were not easy, and they were very big -- none bigger than the turnaround with Jared Dudley draped all over him that gave the Magic the lead for good with just under two minutes left. That started a 10-1 Magic run to close the game, with the final eight points of the run coming from Vucevic. Orlando absolutely earned this win -- even if they might not have gotten it had the Clippers shot better.

In five games this season, Paul has been nothing short of brilliant in the three Clipper wins, and mediocre or worse in the two losses. He's 26-47 from the field, 55%, when they win, 13-32, 41%, when the lose. Making the whole season to date something of a mystery in a lot of ways. We basically have very little clue what the Clippers will look like when Paul is his usual (still All Star) self. Not off-the-charts, does-whatever-he-wants Paul, and not 40%-missing-layups Paul -- just the regular amazing player we're used to.

How bad is the news from the game? It depends on your perspective I suppose. I'm not concerned about the offense. If you run your sets and get good looks, good things will usually happen. The Clippers weren't Houston-sharp tonight, but they were fine on offense. If the shots don't fall in one game, they probably will in the next. The defense remains a problem, but it will come. In the biggest moments, the Clippers defended pretty well, and Orlando made tough shots.

The news from the bench isn't good at all, where no one named Jamal Crawford made a shot, and they wouldn't have scored save for a couple of technical free throws by Darren Collison. Matt Barnes, one of the bench players who has struggled the most, sat this one out with a bruised quad muscle freeing up some minutes for our old pal Willie Green -- who was 0-2. Green, Collison and Byron Mullens were a combined 0-9. The Clippers really need to get something from those guys -- especially Collison and Barnes whenever he's healthy -- or they're going to wear the starters down.

DeAndre Jordan had a big night on the glass with 19 boards, but uncharacteristically had a terrible time finishing (3-10), and obviously he didn't do enough -- or really anything -- to slow Vucevic.

The best news for the Clippers came from Griffin as he made seven of the 13 jumpers he took. Or is that bad news? It's nice that he made a fair few, but should Griffin really be taking 13 jumpers in a game?

We're still early in the season and the Clippers remain very much a work in process. This is not a game they expected to lose, and when they stormed back in the third to take a six point lead, I'm sure they expected to cruise to victory from that point. But NBA teams are not going to roll over, and Orlando played tough until the end to come away with the win.

In an evening of mostly bad news, perhaps the worst of all is that Griffin played 40 minutes and Jordan played a career high 44 -- and the Clippers have to play the NBA Champion Heat tomorrow night.

The Big Picture:

The Clippers think it's the 70s. Los Angeles is averaging 119 points in their first four games, a number that has not been achieved for a season since Paul Westhead's Denver Nuggets in '90-91. Obviously the Clippers aren't going to score like that all season -- but sometimes it feels like they might. Chris Paul -- tied for second in scoring and easily leading the league in assists and PER -- has been simply amazing, blowing away even the very high standard we've come to expect from him. The Clippers newbies, J.J. Redick and Jared Dudley, each had their best performances of the season against the Rockets on Monday, which really just brings one word to mind: unfair. If that many Clipper weapons are working all at once, it's just not really fair. The defense has allowed more points per possession than any other team in the NBA so far as well -- and it doesn't even matter much. If Jordan Farmar can outplay CP3 again, I'll give the Lakers another win. But until that happens, it's a fluke, and the Clippers have handled the rest of their business fine. This is the Clippers first road trip out of the state of California -- they have tough games awaiting tomorrow in Miami and a rematch against the Rockets on Saturday. They need to get this win -- and they can't be looking past the Magic if they really want it.

The Antagonist:

The Magic were supposed to be one of the worst teams in the league. Heading into the season, only the "actively in the process of making the roster worse in order to improve our odds in the Wiggins lottery" Sixers and Suns were considered worse than the Magic by most pundits. Shows what pundits know (silly pundits). The Sixers are 3-1, the Suns are 3-1 and the Magic are 2-2. The Magic are actually a quite impressive 2-2 -- their losses were on the road to the Pacers (the only remaining undefeated team in the league) and on the road to the Timberwolves in overtime. How are they doing it? I'm not entirely sure I know. They're getting nice contributions from a lot of guys, but nothing really jaw-dropping. They're just playing solid basketball on both ends of the court. Can they contend with the Clippers? We'll see.

The Subplots

The Questionable Blogger. Since I'm so befuddled by the Magic, I asked some questions of Evan Dunlap from Orlando Pinstriped Post. Be sure to check out his answers, and don't forget to head over to OPP to read my answers to his questions.

Comparison of key metrics. The Clippers were really good at offense last year, and pretty good at defense. They un-effing-believable good at offense this year, and terrible (but almost irrelevantly so) this year. The Magic were bad at both things last year.

Waking from a Dwight-mare. After playing the Rockets with Dwight Howard on Monday, it's interesting to see the Magic tonight. When the big trade happened in the summer of 2012, it looked to everyone like three teams won and one team lost. A year later, it's the complete opposite. The all stars in the trade -- Howard, Andrew Bynum and Andre Iguodala -- were all in the final year of contracts, and none of them remain with the teams that acquired them. Meaning that the Sixers, Nuggets and Lakers all have nothing to show (less than nothing, since they all gave something up, and they still owe draft picks to the Magic as well). Meanwhile, Arron Afflalo has played well in Orlando, Nikola Vucevic looks like a potential monster in the middle, and even Harkless has been pretty good. With three first round picks still on the way (some of which could be very, very good picks), the Magic really cleaned up in the process. All for Dwight Howard.

Vucevic. One of the pieces Orlando received in the four team trade that send Dwight Howard to the Lakerswas former USC center Nikola Vucevic. Vucevic has started 81 of 86 games since arriving in Orlando and is looking like a significant NBA center. Recalling his college game, I thought of him as a face up center with a pretty decent 18 footer but a little soft. Instead he's been a rebounding beast who was second only to Howard in the NBA in rebounding last season. The battle of the boards between him and DeAndre Jordan could be key tonight.

Oladipo. The Magic chose Victor Oladipo out of Indiana with the second pick in the draft. Oladipo is a big time athlete who has the potential to be a defensive force in the NBA, though his offensive game is still raw. He was the star of the Orlando Summer League -- and given that no rookies looked very good in Las Vegas, he cold be one of the best rookies in the league this season. Arron Afflalo led the Magic in scoring last season -- but they're hoping that he's just keeping the seat warm for Oladipo at this point.

Young front line. Between Vucevic (23), Andrew Nicholson (24), Harkless (20) and the injured Tobias Harris (21), the Magic have some very young players in their front court who appear to have the potential to be pretty darn good. Along with Oladipo, they just need a point guard of the future and they could be in good shape.

Trade bait. With so much emphasis on the youth movement in Orlando, guys like the currently injured Glen Davis and the starting backcourt of Afflalo and Jameer Nelson could be on their way out before the season is over. Davis would look pretty good backing up Griffin and Jordan, and of course he had his best seasons playing for Doc Rivers in Boston -- but his $6.4M salary doesn't make a lot of sense for the Clippers. Not that Orlando would want Jamal Crawford in their current situation, but would you give up JCrossover for Big Baby? I wouldn't.

Clippers reserve bigs. After four games, we now for certain what we had suspected already: the Clippers have an issue in their backup bigs. For now it looks like Rivers is going with a three man big rotation of Griffin, Jordan and Mullens -- playing Griffin and Jordan as many minutes as propriety and foul trouble will allow. He'll also buy some time with small ball lineups when possible. It's hard to say how a small ball lineup would do tonight -- Jason Maxiell isn't very tall, but he's very strong, and Nicholson is a pretty big guy as well. Mullens had his best game as a Clipper Monday, which isn't saying much as you know if you saw his other games.

Collison and Barnes. Last season, Eric Bledsoe, Matt Barnes and Crawford were the keys to the Clippers' second unit. So far this season, Barnes and Bledsoe's replacement, Darren Collison, have yet to get going on the young season. Although Crawford has been terrific, the Clippers have been pretty terrible when they've gone to their bench overall. The Clippers second unit has been pretty terrible -- it will be much better when Collison and Barnes get going.

Big game for Griffin? Looking at the Orlando roster, I'm not really seeing anyone who can handle Griffin. Maxiell is undersized, and the rest of the options are all very inexperienced. I'm feeling a big game for Blake.

As for CP3.... It doesn't take a pre-cog to predict a big game for Paul, but this I know. Paul LOVES to post up, and there aren't a lot of point guards in the NBA smaller than him. He's going to take Nelson into the post every chance he gets.

Miami awaits. The Clippers face the Heat tomorrow in a road back-to-back. Needless to say, that's going to be a difficult game. Equally needless to say, it would be nice to put Orlando away early and get some rest for the likes of Paul and Griffin and Jordan, who are going to be vital against the champs.

Connections. J.J. Redick played his first six and a half seasons in the NBA in Orlando. Matt Barnes was a starting small forward for the Magic in one season of his well-traveled NBA career. Ryan Hollins and Arron Afflalo were UCLA teammates for two seasons, and Afflalo and Collison were teammates for two seasons as well. Afflalo is an LA native, having played his High School ball in Compton at Centennial. Doc Rivers coached the Magic for four seasons (plus 11 games) at the start of his coaching career. Solomon Jones had a couple of 10 day contracts with the Clippers two seasons ago (sadly Jones injured his meniscus after making the Orlando roster and underwent knee surgery last week).

The Clippers open their first out of state trip in Orlando against the Magic, and Evan Dunlap of Orlando Pinstriped Post is here to answer questions about Victor Oladipo, J.J. Redick and more.

The Los Angeles Clippers leave the state of California for the first time this season tomorrow, headed for the frigid fall air of ... Florida! The Clippers open a three game trip with a visit to Orlando to face the surprising Magic. Heading into the season, the Magic were assumed to be one of the weakest teams in the league, sitting in year two of a rebuilding project. A rebuilding project that is going well, but a rebuilding project all the same.

But the Magic have opened the season strong, with respectable losses in Indiana and Minneapolis and a couple of big home wins, including one over the supposedly powerful Brooklyn Nets. Great. With the Clippers in an incredibly difficult section of their schedule, this was supposed to be the easy game!

I had a chance to ask some questions of Evan Dunlap, the longtime editor of SBNation's Magic blog Orlando Pinstriped Post. Evan watched J.J. Redick for seven seasons with the Magic, so he's got some nice insights there, and in general he'll catch you right up on everything you need to know about the Clippers' next opponent.

***************

Steve Perrin: Lost amid the shock surrounding the 3-0 start of the Sixers is the very solid start of another supposed bottom-feeder, your Orlando Magic. A respectable showing on the road against undefeated Indy, an OT loss on the road to Minny -- followed by a pair of impressive home wins. What's going on down there? Are the Magic -- dare I say it -- good?

Evan Dunlap: The Magic's season is only four games old, but yes, they certainly look good so far. A big key to their surprising start is defense. Through Monday, they have the league's ninth-best defense on a per-possession basis, and in their two wins they've limited their opponents to below 40 percent shooting. Coach Jacque Vaughn talked throughout training camp and the preseason about the importance of digging in defensively and playing with physicality and aggression on that end, and so far they've succeeded on that front. The standings bear as much out.

"Defense does matter for our team to be successful," Vaughn said Saturday. "And that goes for every guy. When different indivivudals accept that, a lot of times a team can flourish."

Offense has also played a role in Orlando's early success. Andrew Nicholson's three-point shooting--he's 4-of-11 from deep this year after not attempting any threes as a rookie--has helped space the floor, and Arron Afflalo is out of his mind, averaging 20.3 points per game on 57.4 percent True Shooting.

Sum it up and Orlando's 2-2, although we must caution that we're less than five percent through the season. Its fortunes could change. But there is a sense around the team that this 2-2 start is more real than last year's.

SP: Let's see, Dwight Howard is in Houston; Andre Iguodala is in Oakland; Andrew Bynum is in Cleveland. Everyone knew that four-team trade was incredibly lop-sided -- they just got the side with the lop completely wrong. With three solid players on the roster and three first rounders still to come, in your wildest dreams did you ever think the Howard trade would work out so well for the Magic? Especially as compared to the other teams involved?

ED: The Howard trade absolutely worked out better than expected, especially when you consider the early reaction to the trade was overwhelmingly negative. Arron Afflalo? Nik Vučević? The rookie Maurice Harkless? None of these guys was considered a worthy return for a future Hall-of-Famer, but here we are. It's interesting how perspectives can change.

The surprisingly strong seasons Vučević and Harkless put together were remarkable enough, but you're right: the fact that the other teams in the deal didn't fare so well only makes the Magic's haul look even better by comparison.

SP: Vučević and Nicholson have looked great this season, to say nothing of the currently injured Tobias Harris. The future of the front court in Orlando is the young guys, which leaves the currently injured Big Baby Davis as likely trade bait. What do you think the Magic can get for him? The Clippers desperately need a third big, but they wouldn't want his $6.4M salary.

ED: I think it's fair to say that Davis' Orlando future is up in the air. A good showing once he returns from a July surgery--itself to address a problem his first surgery in February caused--will certainly juice his trade value, and I think it's fair to say that the Magic would move him for the right price.

The fact that Davis' contract isn't expiring might help his value a little bit; teams can trade for him in, say, February and know that he's not a rental. Then again, I don't know how much more value his contract really adds, considering that he's a high-usage big guy with a True Shooting mark below the league average. There is something to be said for his effective low-post defense, both individually and within the larger team context, but I think Afflalo is a more likely trade piece.

SP: We all know that the NBA is a superstar league, and as solid as Vučević and Nicholson and Harris appear to be, it doesn't seem like any of them are destined for superstardom. And then there's Victor. I know it's early and he's only 21, but from what you've seen of him so far, is Oladipo a superstar in the making?

ED: I think it's too soon to evaluate Oladipo's potential for superstardom. He's made some dazzling plays -- this dunk against the Spurs in the preseason, this driving slam over Ronny Turiaf, this 360-degree throwdown against Brooklyn -- and his aggressiveness driving the ball to the basket adds another dimension to what has been, in the past, a stagnant Orlando offense. There are some problems, such as the frequency with which he gets his shot blocked and his propensity for committing turnovers or otherwise losing his handle.

But Oladipo has already, at 21, shown the potential to be a game-changing force at both ends of the floor. Whether he'll be able to do that on a nightly basis and at a superstar level is an open question, but he might be able to get there. I don't think it happens this year, or maybe even the next one. The fact that he's getting so many reps already--his usage rate is 28 percent and he's playing 28 minutes per game--bodes well for him; the more chances he has to make mistakes, the more chances he has to grow so he can better handle that same workload, or an even greater one, in the years ahead.

SP: J.J. Redick played most of his first seven seasons with the Magic where he was a strong contributor off the bench. The Clippers executed a sign-and-trade to bring him in this summer and have inserted him into the starting two guard role. After watching J.J. for many years, how do you expect him to play with the Clippers? Is he suited to be an NBA starter, or is he better suited to a bench role?

ED: First, I have to say that I loved the move the Clippers made to get Redick. He's such a great fit with them, with his shooting, alongside Chris Paul. Now I know that Paul, as the greatest point guard in the universe, can make anyone look good, but Redick isn't just anyone: he's one of the greatest shooters alive, and his tireless work off the ball and the improvement he's made as a playmaker give him have added some dimensions to his game.

Moving on to the point about starting versus coming off the bench: I think he can do either. He doesn't strike me as the sort of guy who would grouse about that sort of thing, though he did clash with Jim Boylan in Milwaukee about minutes, which is a separate and yet related issue.

Redick would probably tell you himself that what's most important to him is winning. The Clippers figure to do a lot of that this year regardless of Redick is. But I think the more minutes he plays alongside Paul, the better. Then again, there might be merit to putting him on the second unit with Darren Collison to help alleviate some of the playmaking responsibilities, but that sort of change is something Doc Rivers doesn't have to make until the situation absolutely calls for it.

*************

That Dwight Howard trade is still absolutely amazing to me. At the time, I said that all three of the other teams got better -- which had to mean that the Magic had gotten much, much worse. But even taking into consideration current versus future value, Orlando is already the undisputed winner of the trade -- with Vučević and Harkless figuring to get much better and three first rounders in the bank. Wow.

Thanks to Evan for providing these terrific insights into the Magic. I love his perspective on Redick; the Paul-Redick partnership certainly seems to be going well so far.
